Desolation

The emptiness is here,
The desolation, I fear.
It's hollowing out my soul,
And taking on a deadly role.
It feeds on well-being,
The volatile beast is unforgiving.
It's eating away my will
And obliterating my essence.
It's a type of unwanted peace.
A dreadful silent retreat.

Nothing in my head,
But never ending despair.
The only sound I hear
Rattles through my ears.
Vibrations of pain and sorrow,
An agonizing sound of grief.

My jolting heart, it beats.
Pounding, banging,
Thudding, and crashing.
As if to finally break free
Of its overbearing cage
And escape the very thing
That keeps it well and safe.
